00:00 <****> hahaha!
00:01 <****> As a foreigner, I don't think of oklahoma as being very "spicy".
00:01 <****> heh, im married but awesome name
00:01 <****> ahhaha

00:02 <****> No that's OK.
00:03 <****> quit my job
00:03 <****> cisco - WS-C3524-PWR-XL-EN
00:03 <****> very nice and cheap voip switch
00:03 <****> too bad i use SIP on the 7940 with asterisk
00:03 <****> for sure
00:03 <****> if you have cisco phones
00:03 <****> but whaterver
00:03 <****> which is all it is really good for :P
00:03 <****> remember that the 3500 only supports cisco poe
00:03 <****> i like avaya phone
00:03 <****> hermatize: you would :P
00:04 <****> ahahah
00:04 <****> onex
00:04 <****> nemith, you can reverse the wires on blue and brown.. and it will power regurlar poe phones
00:04 <****> avaya sucks
00:04 <****> teknoprep: sorta
00:04 <****> i love Polycom
00:04 <****> That doesn't sound right
00:04 <****> You can stille use the SIP with cisco on conjunction with the 3500
00:04 <****> teknoprep: thank you.. avaya does suck
00:04 <****> polycom phones are absolutely the best phones ever made
00:04 <****> yah, i have all polycom
00:04 <****> teknoprep: cisco pumps power down pairs 1,2 3,6
00:04 <****> so thats not right
00:05 <****> i need to setup a little ccm lab
00:05 <****> vmware?
00:05 <****> Cisco ILP provides power down pins 1/2, 3/6 at 48V DC. 802.3af supplies pins 1/2, 3/6, or pins 4/5 and 7/8
00:05 <****> i thought that the PoE wires were kinda of a stand thing..
00:05 <****> http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/view/Cisco+POE
00:05 <****> it is.
00:05 <****> check that out nemith
00:05 <****> i've seen it
00:06 <****> doesn't mean i belive it
00:06 <****> it works
00:06 <****> But before the 802.1af came along cisco did their own thingy
00:06 <****> 802.3af
00:06 <****> the difference i think is that cisco will actually supply power down the wire pairs first, while 802.3af uses test tones
00:07 <****> teknoprep: hmm
00:07 <****> ah garbage, i can't find my RRSP docs.
00:07 <****> why the hell do vendors do this shit
00:07 <****> nemith is that your ccie lab?
00:07 <****> shit looks brand new
00:09 <****> Bawbatos: Sometimes the vendors just can't wait for the IEEE to get the standards finished
00:10 <****> Just look at the 802.11n
00:10 <****> hermatize: what do you mean?
00:10 <****> yah..still pain in the butt
00:10 <****> is there a way to change the POE connection in the cisco switch ?
00:11 <****> inside the switch?
00:11 <****> sure
00:11 <****> no
00:11 <****> instead of inline power use 802.3af
00:11 <****> But 3560s will do both
00:11 <****> hmm
00:11 <****> not the 3500
00:11 <****> no i said the 3560
00:11 <****> and the new 3560E support 802.3af and beyond
00:11 <****> The 3500 is EOL long ago
00:12 <****> 802.3af class 4 ~ 30W ish
00:12 <****> teknoprep: It should auto detect the end evices capabilities
00:12 <****> and provide appopriate power, either prestandard of 802.3at
00:12 <****> er
00:12 <****> 802.3af
00:14 <****> it
00:14 <****> it's all the same pins anyway
00:14 <****> http://www.internetworkpro.org/wiki/PoE
00:14 <****> sartan: Not always
00:14 <****> no, not always, but it can be.
00:14 <****> 802.3af provides a choice
00:14 <****> I pasted the specifics earlier
00:14 <****> Cisco ILP provides power down pins 1/2, 3/6 at 48V DC. 802.3af supplies pins 1/2, 3/6, or pins 4/5 and 7/8
00:15 <****> Badge in post
00:15 <****> looking at debug output ford ebug ilpower controller shows that it tries ILP before 802.3af.
00:16 <****> neat!
00:17 <****> :)
00:19 <****> So here's a neat one about PoE. has anyone tried this? Cisco waits 4 seconds after inline power is applied to a port to see if an ip phone comes alive. if not, power is removed. someone here should track a debug output, get some PoE, yank out the phone and put a PC Nic in the port within that 4 second interval and see if anything fries.
00:19 <****> On the earlier devices that was the case and you could hurt laptops
00:19 <****> anyone rock a Juniper ssg ?
00:19 <****> #juniper probably has
00:25 <****> man i cannot get chatzilla to work its freakin pissn me off
00:26 <****> use a real irc client
